Raw and austere, simple and bold; full of stomping feet and clapping hands, chants and harmonies, whispered words and soulful lament – that’s the music of Great Aunt. Listen, and you’ll hear tales of joy and grief, whiskey and wine, gratitude and purpose-seeking.
Formed in 2016, the duo is a collaboration between songwriter/instrumentalists Megan Bird (mandolin, resonator, acoustic guitar, vocals) and Chelsea Allen (double bass, vocals, percussion), and draws inspiration from the traditions of old time, bluegrass, and gospel music, with loving homage to their diverse backgrounds in punk, jazz, roots, soul, and folk music. The instrumentation and arrangements are bare and bold: using only various combinations of mandolin, guitar, or resonator with double bass and percussion, and the sonorous voices of Bird and Allen in harmony.
The duo has delighted audiences at some of Australia’s finest music and arts festivals, including Tamworth Country Music Festival, Deni Ute Muster, The GAS, Wintermoon, Healesville Music Festival, and Newport Folk Festival, amongst others.

Event Details
The man Jerry Lee Lewis once likened to “that Cash kid, but good” has enjoyed a long and varied career. Jack Grace is that man: a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who’s been touring and recording for over 25 years. His duet with Norah Jones, “Bad Wind Blowing” was a standout tune on his last recording, Everything I Say Is A Lie, produced by Joan Jett and Steve Earle’s former guitarist Eric Ambel. He’s performed with a diverse collection of artists, like the aforementioned Lewis as well as Doc Watson, Fishbone, Junior Brown, The Meters and has even shared the bill with Merle Haggard. Hanging out backstage with Haggard had a particular significance. When Jack handed over his 1947 Gibson acoustic to Merle to autograph, the country legend lifted the guitar into the air, saying, “I think I feel a few more songs in this one.”
He’s contributed tunes and scoring to several movies, including both “Super Troopers” 1 and 2, with the cult hit “Big Bear,” as well as the rollicking “What I Drink and Who I Meet at the Track,” heard in Beerfest. A seasoned solo performer, his current focus, Jack’s groups have comprised a variety of configurations over the years. With a revolving cast of characters, he leads anything from simple guitar, bass, and drum trios to seven-piece ensembles complete with piano, steel, trombone, and trumpet. A Brooklyn-born renaissance man, Jack didn’t plan on a musical career. While at NYU he studied drama, determined to be an actor. Yet music has been an important part of his life since childhood. Once he finally picked up a guitar, he was ready to embark on his musical adventures.

Soup Camel has been playing guitar and singing since he was 13. He grew up in a small town in NJ in the 50′ and 60’s and was influenced by ALL the music of that era including his Dad’s Pete Foutain records, his Mom’s Broadway Musical records and even Lawrence Welk. His life has been a long muscial journey which has settled into the sounds of early American Blues and Jazz (ca. 1900-1940). He loves to sing, he loves to play guitar, and he aint afraid to yodel.
Kimberlee Thorne has been involved in music since the day she was born. Her father, Henry Thorne, was the band director at Rivesville High School in Rivesville, WV. She has played music and sung all over the country and has many credits to her name including a stint in Nashville at Opryland.
Motown Minnie has been around music since High School and was married to well-known luthier, Gilbert Stiles. Gilbert was the one who got her interested in the bass and bought her Ruby Red, a 1930’s Kay bass. Ruby Red has been retired and now Motwon Minnie plays an electric bass built by Gilbert many years ago.
Alan Martin, aka the Beat Doctor, retired from Soup Camel Music on October 24, 2015. Regretfully, our brother Alan, passed on in August of 2016. We miss him dearly.
David Insley, otherwise known as Delta Dave has been playing harmonica for years but is also a virtuoso on the clarinet. His early clarinet days included a stint in the Baltimore Colts Marching Band.
Wil Wharton now plays percussion for Soup Camel Music. Wil has been around the music scene for many years. Greatly influenced by his family he continues to explore and create.

Now this is a woman that embodies all the traits of a classic singer songwriter. She is as in tune with the rivers and forests of her mountain home as she is with the stings of her guitar. When multiple AMAZING acts tell me that there is a special artist that NEEDS to be booked, I listen to them. The amount of adoring musicians that demanded me to book her gorgeous performance was staggering and the first time she played here she proved without a doubt that they were all 100% correct. Her set comes packed with soulful originals and covered material by many of the best voices in Americana and country music.

Event Details
Bob is a known commodity in the music scene around here. Playing music for as long as he can remember, he is skilled in several instruments and has been a pillar of the bluegrass and Americana community. This Sunday will be absolutely stunning solo showcase of his hammered dulcimer skills. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the hammered dulcimer….. The hammered dulcimer (also called the hammer dulcimer) is a percussion–stringed instrument which consists of strings typically stretched over a trapezoidal resonant sound board. The hammered dulcimer is set before the musician, who in more traditional styles may sit cross-legged on the floor, or in a more modern style may stand or sit at a wooden support with legs. The player holds a small spoon-shaped mallet hammer in each hand to strike the strings. The Graeco-Roman dulcimer (“sweet song”) derives from the Latin dulcis (sweet) and the Greek melos (song). The dulcimer, in which the strings are beaten with small hammers, originated from the psaltery, in which the strings are plucked.
